HiveSight helps beekeepers record their hives and inspections and share updates with other beekeepers. This page explains what information HiveSight collects, how it's used, who can see it, and how to delete it.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and password (or your Google or Apple sign-in), your first and last name, city and state, the date you started beekeeping or your years of experience, and your profile photo if you add one.
- Phone number, if you add and verify one. A verification code is sent by text message.
- Your beekeeping records: apiaries, hives, their boxes and frames, frame inspections (including the cell maps you paint), notes, and frame status ratings.
- What you share: posts, photos and videos you upload, comments, and your HiveCircle connections. Photos and videos attached to posts are stored at web addresses that anyone with the exact link can open, so don't post anything you need to keep private.
- Questions you ask Ask the Hive, and messages you send us from Help & support.
- Agreement to our terms: which version of the Terms of Service and this policy you accepted, and when.
- Reports you send about posts or comments (the reason and any details you add), and reports others send about content you posted. We use them to review content and enforce the Community Guidelines.
- Feedback survey answers, if you fill in the survey at hive-sight.app/feedback (no account needed). Answers are anonymous unless you sign up to test HiveSight, in which case we keep the first name and email you give so we can contact you about testing, and nothing else. To block spam we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, never the address itself. To have your survey answers or email removed, send us a message from Help & support.
- Technical information: error reports (what went wrong and on which page), your browser type, and your time zone, used to show inspection dates correctly.
HiveSight doesn't use your device's GPS location; location is only the city and state you type in. We don't show ads and we don't sell your information.
How it's used
- To run the app: show your hives, inspections, health reports, alerts and your HiveCircle feed.
- To verify your phone number and keep your account secure.
- To answer Ask the Hive questions and support messages.
- To find and fix problems in the app.
Who can see it
- Your HiveCircle: beekeepers you've accepted as connections can see your profile, apiaries, hives and posts, and comment on your posts.
- Other HiveSight users who search for beekeepers can see your name, city and state in search results, and can find you by phone number if they already know it. They see nothing else until you accept them.
- Service providers that run parts of HiveSight for us, only to provide that service: Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in), Vercel (hosting), Twilio (phone verification texts), Google and Apple (if you sign in with them), and Anthropic (Ask the Hive — your question and a short summary of your own apiaries and hives are sent to its AI to answer it; and HiveCircle moderation — the text of posts and comments, and photos attached to posts, are sent to its AI to check them against the Community Guidelines before they’re shared).
- If required by law.
Cookies and storage on your device
HiveSight uses cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your time zone, and your browser's storage to keep unsaved inspection drafts and which alerts you've seen. These stay on your device.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your information is kept while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time from your profile (see how to delete your account). Deleting it permanently removes your profile, photos, apiaries, hives, inspections, posts, comments, connections and support messages. Error reports are kept for troubleshooting but are no longer linked to you.
Children
HiveSight is only for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. Questions about your privacy? Send us a message from Help & support or email steven.a.king86@gmail.com.
